Avions have wings and can fly. They are about the size of a loaf of bread. The color of their feathers vary but it is always dark (gray, black, brown). Although, patches of white, yellow and green feathers do occur and are greatly prized among those Almightys who are fashionable and upwardly mobile. This is not fortunate for the Avion because the Almightys don’t want to wait for the feathers to fall out naturally.
Avions are notorious gossips, but all of them will swear that they know how to keep their beak shut.
Avions live in large colonies on the outskirts of the forest and in town when they can. It is easier to forage on the garbage left by the Almightys than to fly around the forest looking for food. Avions, generally, like to take the easiest route possible in all aspects of life. However, because they are loud and leave messes, most Almightys don’t want them around. Almightys have been known to trap and kill Avions who set up camp near Almightys’ homes. Avions are wary of Almightys.
This picture is of Birchwood, Birdie to his friends. He is a fairly typical adult, male Avion although many are a little thinner and more muscular. Birdie does love his food and he isn’t much for exercise.
Birdie is more comfortable around Almightys than most Avions. He’d had an injury as a youth which landed him in the care of Sarah Truent. She is an Almighty who cares for many of the creatures from the other classes when they get injured. Birdie stayed with Sarah for some time, to the annoyance of Sarah’s son, Hugh. Birdie and Hugh do not get along, but Birdie is always willing to do favors—for a price.
You can read about Birdie in Lake of Sins: Secrets In Blood.
